I have been working a lot lately and today I finally got a day off. I have done absolutely nothing today but catch up on some Desperate Housewives and catch up on some reading. I hope you all had as good a day as I have. If not, here is something to cheer you up!!
First let me apologize for my short absence. After I travel it takes me a while to get back into a routine. Not to mention I have been feeling icky the past couple of days. No worries though, I am feeling better today, getting back into the swing of things and preparing for Naomi's 2nd birthday!
Thinking about how fast these two years have gone by, I have been thinking about the type of woman I am and the types of women my daughter will come across as she grows. I have already noticed Naomi picking up a number of my traits and habits, one of them being love of magazines. This morning I was listening to Amel Larrieux's song "Ini" and these lyrics popped out to me.
A little girl I was looking at a magazine
Wondering why I could never find too many girls that looked like me
All I saw was hair so blond and eyes so very blue
And the words under the picture said, "and you can get this look too"
They can not define beautiful to me
Someone else's eyes don't see what I see
Follow like I'm blind just won't do for me
God made me just fine; that's why I got to be
I want my baby girl to know that even though we read these fashion magazines, which portray a standardized view of beauty, that she is beautiful at whatever size, shape, or color. This is why I am so thankful that I am seeing more African American faces on the pages of Vogue, Elle, InStyle, etc. One of my favorites being The Life Rhapsodic by Norman Jean Roy that was found in the March 2011 edition of Vogue. I am looking forward to seeing more of beautiful women like Jourdan Dunn, Chanel Iman, Anais Mali, and Arlenis Sosa while flipping through my favorite reading material.
Before my trip I stopped at Target to get a couple of essentials, but as usual something not on the list ended up coming home with me. Going into Target the re-release of some of Target's most popular designs in the GO INTERNATIONAL DESIGN COLLECTIVE was the farthest thing from my mind. However, as I was walking past the clothing section I spotted this Rodarte for Target dress and loved it.

Have you picked up any of the dresses from the line? I would love to see which ones are your favorite!!!
So just about every Plus Size Blogger has posted about Amber Riley's spread in Essence Magazine. I really tried to resist since I believe everyone is on the same page and agrees that this spread is jaw droppingly amazing!!! I was just looking at her photos again and had to share the two looks I love the most. These looks convey two totally different personalities and on any given day I am feeling both of them struggling to
overcome the other.
Composed and About Her Business
Wild and Free to Do As She Pleases
These are my two personalities struggling to find balance in this life of mine. To find that balance would be to find peace, happiness, and joy. And to look as good as Amber does would just be the cherry on top!
I had the most amazing trip to Texas!!! I went for my Best Friend's Brother's wedding. It was in McAllen, TX which is right on the border of Mexico. From the moment I arrived it was go, go, go. The only time I found to take outfit photos were while the Bridal party were taking theirs.

Anthropologie Dress and Belt:: Kenzo Wedges:: DSW clutch
I love this dress from Anthropologie! If you have not caught on it is my absolute favorite store!!! It is so comfortable! The neck and back are draped beautifully and it moves so wonderfully! To all my Plus Size women, this just proves that if you love it try it on!!! Anthropologie does carry large and extra large and if it is not in store it is definitely on the website!!! This dress was the perfect for all the running around the we did with the wedding party. The belt (also seen here) I wore inside out because I couldn't resist the beautiful fuchsia lining.
P.S.- Please excuse the hair. I took these pics in the 40 mile an hour winds. Congratulations to Danny and Joci on the start of their new life together!!!
This week has been a good one. Aside from the last two days of rain and the chill in the air today I can't complain. I have gotten my workouts in and started a running routine, work has been busy and good, Baby Girl and Hunny are happy and healthy, and the excitement has been building for my upcoming Texas trip this weekend. I can't believe I leave tomorrow to see my Bestee (it's been almost two years)!!! Well since I have been all smiles this week I've decided to share some of the things that have me most excited.
Heart Silhouette Ring from Anthropologie
The floral and lace patterns of two new tops I bought for Texas
Sade "Soldier of Love" Album-- # 3 "Morning Bird" is my favorite
Major haul of magazines I got last week that will accompany me on my trip + Jane Eyre
I love this message since I am always trying to "find" myself. Time to create the me I am!!!
For the rest of my days, every time I go shopping I will be shopping for my Little Miss Naomi as well. However, it has been increasingly hard to find cute clothes for her. If I could, I would keep her in the dresses and rompers found only sizes up to 24 months. Being that children do grow, Mon Petite is now wearing a 3T and the pretty outfits formerly available are not so easy to find. *breathe* So after tireless hours of shopping (both in store and online) we finally found some winners. Here are a few of mine and my Hubby's favorite pics for the little girl's spring wardrobe.
Unlike today, yesterday was absolutely beautiful and I was able to spend some time with my Hunny before I went off to work. Trying to find time to take pics of what I wear on a daily basis has been the most challenging part of blogging, but thankfully I was able to drag my Hunny down to the park and get a couple of photos in the sunshine.

I have desperately been trying to find some blazers that are becoming and not black and finally I found four amazing ones that fit great and are some wonderful colors. This purple linen blazer is quite possibly my favorite right now and it also gave me a reason to break out these Kenzo platforms I got end of season last year.
The wonderful floral and purple hues have me even more excited for Spring!!
